How to Wear a Saree Without the Morning Rush: Pre-Pleat It the Night Before

Six metres of silk, forty minutes you do not have, and a car waiting outside. There is a better way to do this.

Every family has the same morning. The function is at ten. At half past eight, someone is on the floor of a bedroom with six metres of silk, trying to make seven even pleats while a child asks where their shoes are.

What pre-pleating is

We take your saree the day before, press and set the pleats, and secure them so they hold. On the morning, the saree goes on in a few minutes instead of forty, and the pleats sit properly because they were made by someone who was not in a hurry.

Try itThe same function morning, two ways

5 min

on the morning of the function

The pleats were pressed and set the day before by someone who was not in a hurry. On the morning the saree goes on in minutes, and the pleats sit evenly all day.

What to bring

  • The saree itself, and the exact blouse you plan to wear with it.
  • The petticoat, in the colour you will actually use.
  • The footwear, if it changes the height of the fall.

Heavy silks and stiff tissue sarees hold pleats best. Very soft georgettes will relax overnight — for those, we advise draping on the day instead.

And if you would rather learn

We teach the pre-pleating class for exactly this reason. One afternoon, and the next twenty functions belong to you rather than to us. We are entirely happy to lose that booking.

Skip the scramble

Saree pre-pleating — or learn it yourself

Drop your saree off the day before and collect it pleated, or take our pre-pleating class and never fight six metres of silk on a function morning again.
