How to Get a Natural Makeup Look That Still Looks Like You

Thirty years of brides and functions have taught us one rule: the face you arrive with is the one you should leave with — only more so. Here is how that works in the chair.

There are two ways to do makeup. One treats the face as a surface to be covered and corrected into somebody else. The other reads the face in front of you — its actual structure — and brings it forward.

We only do the second, and it is not a stylistic preference. It is what makes a photograph from your wedding still look like you in twenty years.

What that means when you sit down

We will look at your bone structure and your colouring, and ask where you are going and what the light will be like. Then we will suggest what suits that, which is occasionally not what you asked for. You are free to overrule us — it is your face and your day.

Makeup should be an enhancement, not a crutch you have to walk with.

Why we say it out loud

Because a lot of people have been made to feel that their unmade face is a problem to be solved. It is not, and thirty years of doing this has not changed that view.

A saree that sits right all day

A natural look deserves pleats that stay put. We pre-pleat your saree the day before or drape it on the morning, so you walk out ready and stay that way through the photographs.
